With the festivities just a matter of weeks away, Christmas shopping is already underway.
To give you a helping hand, we have created a virtual market to buy and sell everything from handmade decorations and tasty treats to wholesome experiences and so much more. And the best part? It’s all completely local to the North East!
To help you get to know our sellers a little bit better, find out about their products on the market and really understand what buying local at Christmas means to them, we have caught up with 1Hundred Per-Scent to get all the details.
1. Can you tell us a little bit about your business?
“1Hundred Per-Scent is a small partnership based in Aberdeen, made up of Evan and Micha.
“We specialise in natural fragrance products such as candles, reed diffusers and wax melts.
“We take the most pride in the fact that all of our products are completely vegan friendly and free of any unnatural materials or harmful toxins. It was always our intention from day one that our products would be handmade from start to finish, made using only natural materials and most importantly, smell fantastic!
“We have put a lot of time and effort into perfecting our products with multiple scent tests before every product release, making sure that they will fill any room in your home with the smell that you love and deserve to come home to.”
2. Why did you start your business? What was the inspiration behind it?
“We had gone back and forth about starting a small side hustle selling scented candles in
2019 and had even bought all the materials to do so.
“We both worked full time and lacked the confidence that we could actually go ahead and do it.
“The first lockdown of 2020 came along and with Micha being put on furlough from her job, we thought what better time than now to start? That lockdown gave us the inspiration to kick start our new venture.
“What started with selling four different scented soy wax candles, has now grown to thirteen
different scents to choose from across three different products and gift boxes.”
3. What’s the most unique item that you sell?
“Our most unique item we sell is definitely our bespoke gift boxes. These are our answer to
people looking for an easy Christmas present whilst still looking like a special gift. The gift
boxes come in pre-wrapped black glitter boxes and contain 1 x 30cl candle, 1 x 100ml reed
diffuser & 1 x 80g wax melt.
“They are available in all of our Christmas scents, or, if you can’t choose, we also offer a custom gift box where you can choose any 3 scents across our entire range.”
4. What do you love the most about your work?
“The thing we love most about our work is the community we have developed since we
started trading. Whether it’s seeing kind words about our products, seeing stunning
photos of them being posted from people’s homes or meeting and developing a
relationship with some amazing people we have dealt with.
“This is definitely our favourite part of our work and we hope to do so much more once the world
returns to normality.”
5. Why do you think it’s so important to support local at Christmas?
“I think we stand with everyone by stating the obvious and saying that this year more than
any, it is so important to support local.
“With businesses having to fight against restrictions, regulations, sales drops and potential loss of staff just to scrape by and survive through this pandemic, it is hugely important that Aberdeen pulls together and supports local businesses. Whether that is for your Christmas shopping or just your weekly messages, local businesses are depending on Aberdeen city and shire as a
community, to help get through what is probably the toughest time they have experienced since starting up.”
6. What do you love most about Christmas?
“The thing we love most about Christmas is quite cliché but it has to be spending
quality time with family and friends. Having family and friends gather at this time of year
really is something to cherish.
“Myself and Micha both have quite big families. It can be difficult sometimes to get the entire family under one roof and Christmas is sometimes the only opportunity for this to happen which is why we love it so much.”
